In years gone by, as ships from around the world docked at Bremen’s international port, the central electricity utility channelled power to the Speicher XI substation for cranes and other harbour equipment. The dock’s forklifts were serviced and maintained in the adjoining machinery workshop.
Today, the Speicher XI substation and the forklift facility (now the BLG-Forum) form the centre of a growing harbour-front complex. The Bremer Veranstaltungszentrum (event centre) ELZ consists of the BLG-Forum, the Generator Plant and the independently operated, Club Underdock. Together, they combine authentic harbour flair and antiquated industrial charm with art, culture, economics and science. The available spaces are acoustically divided with their own access but can also be combined according to demand. The ELZ is an inspirational venue for exclusive festivals, innovative presentations, bold exhibitions, raging parties, enthralling theatre, lively concerts and – it goes without saying – any event you’ve got planned.
