Dresden Tourist Tax
The state capital of Dresden has decided that every overnight guest must pay a tourist tax of 1.30 € per overnight stay as of February 2014. The tourist tax will be calculated per person per day and included in your invoice at the end of your stay. The arrival and departure days will be counted together as a single day. Only children under the age of 18 will be automatically exempt from the charge.
Please appreciate that as of this date we will be obliged to charge each guest this tax and pass it on to the city of Dresden.
Even if you are staying in the city for business purposes (e.g. as a bus driver or tour guide), you will automatically be obliged to pay the tourist tax for the relevant number of overnight stays upon departure from your hotel, since the city of Dresden assumes that trip organisers generally schedule time for their participants to enjoy the city's cultural sights as well. You can, however, apply in advance for an exemption from the tourist tax from the city's Tax and Treasury Office. Please note that the processing time is currently 6 weeks.
You can also apply for a refund after your stay in Dresden. In order to do so, you will need documentary evidence that you did not visit any cultural institutions, such as the programme of visits/schedule provided by the trip organiser or client/employer. The relevant application form can be downloaded here or obtained from our reception desk.
