One of the reasons why the island of Mallorca is popular with so many holidaymakers is because every guest can find interesting ways to pass their time thanks to the huge variety of leisure activities on offer. As well as offering beaches, sun and plenty of sport, Mallorca – and in particular the area around the idyllic tourist destination of Paguera – can also be used as a base for various trips and other activities.
Valldemossa is a village with protected status, where the island's patron saint "Santa Catalina Tomás" was born in the 16th century. It is located 400 m above sea level, and is home to the famous Carthusian monastery founded here in 1339 by King Martin of Aragon. The composer Frédéric Chopin and the author George Sand spent the winter of 1829/1839 here.
As the island's capital, Palma de Mallorca is the place to find streets bustling with activity and countless shops, as well as a relaxed atmosphere in the evening and a great nightlife. Yet Palma de Mallorca also holds other attractions for tourists, such as cathedrals, Bellver Castle, the Miro Museum, the city's typical narrow streets and the Arabian Baths of Palma. Palma's old town, built in the Spanish-Catalonian style and strongly influenced by Moorish architecture, boasts a unique ambiance.
The former fishing port of Andratx has become one of the most popular destinations for discerning guests visiting Mallorca. The port of Puerto Andratx is situated only 10 km from Paguera and is the ideal place to take a stroll. Today the old fishing harbour is almost exclusively occupied by yachts of all sizes, from the simple to the luxurious.
The mountains of Serra de Tramuntana cover an area of 1,067 m² and extend over a distance of more than 90 km. The main mountain range covers the whole of west and north-west Mallorca. Serra de Tramuntana features Mallorca's highest point, Puig Major (1,445 m).more
The mountain range is easily accessed by road or by the many footpaths. It has remained largely untouched by mass tourism, and offers an ideal location for walking and cycling. What makes Serra de Tramuntana so captivating is the often spectacularly beautiful and wild landscape, large swathes of which are still covered by the island's original vegetation, as well as the fact that it is almost entirely natural and undeveloped.
