Through this tradition, along with a chain of other northern Brandenburg towns steeped in history, the town forms part of the 215-kilometre circular "German Ceramics Route". A highlight in the calendar of events is the Rheinsberg pottery market, which draws thousands of visitors every October.

Two of Germany's four largest lakes – Lake Müritz and the Schweriner See – are also close by and form part of the Mecklenburg waterways.
