RUHR 2010

Culture everywhere for everyone

Bookable the whole of 2010 throuh upon request and subject to availability

How does an entire region become the European Capital of Culture? Simple: when 53 neighbouring cities and counties come together to form the Project Ruhr 2010. Their ultimate goal: to make art accessible for everyone!

Previously known for its coal mining and steel production, the Ruhr region around Essen has undergone an amazing transformation. With its enviable number of museums, historical industrial landmarks, theatres and recreational areas, the Ruhr is now a region of culture. Proud of how the area has developed, the 5.3 million people making up its population want to share their achievement. The program they’ve put together as the European Capital of Culture 2010 runs from January through December. The Maritim Hotel Gelsenkirchen is not far from the Veltins Arena and the perfect starting place for excursions into the entire region.

Included:

  • 2 nights accomodation including sumptuous breakfast buffet
  • 2 x three course menu in the restaurant
  • Guided tour through the Veltins Arena (75 minutes)
  • Guided tour through the Zeche Zollverein (120 minutes)
  • Complimentary use of the swimming pool, sauna and steam bath
