Nestled in a hilly terrain thick with cypress trees, the seaside town of Marmaris is a paradise for relaxation seekers and energetic holidaymakers alike. The south-western Aegean coast with its fine sandy shores and captivating bays allure sun lovers and beachcombers while the crystal clear waters beyond beckon with the promise of unforgettable scuba diving, wild windsurfing and sun-drenched sailing.
Marmaris
The beaches around Marmaris are amongst the best in Turkey's south-west so searching for the best place to catch a tan or engage in water sports requires nothing more than stepping from the hotel grounds. Windsurfing, parasailing, scuba diving, waterskiing, sailing and jet skiing - if it can be done on, in, over or under water - Marmaris is the place to do it!
The Aegean isn't the only place to get wet either. The wild waters of the Dalaman Stream are not only waiting to be conquered, but are also a fantastic way to enjoy some spectacular scenery. Spring and Autumn are considered the best months for hiking and exploring the hinterland while those who venture into the undisturbed nature in summer are advised to take plenty of liquid refreshment with them. Another popular method of discovering the wilderness is on horseback. The mounts are very tame and information on equestrian safaris can be obtained from the hotel.
Bodrum
Located on the Bodrum Peninsula and home to the magnificent 15th century Castle of Saint Peter, Bodrum is the south-west coast's most famous holiday destination. The charming old town entices visitors with numerous landmarks and sights including the bazaar district and the renowned Museum of Underwater Archaeology.
Izmir
Turkey's third most populous city and its second largest port, Izmir entices with its exotic Kemeralti bazaar and lively narrow streets. Among its many noteworthy attractions, the city is home to an archaeological museum dedicated to the ancient cities that existed along the Aegean coast over the millennia. There is also a cultural park with landscaped gardens, restaurants, tea terraces and a small zoo. The Alsancak district is known for its nightlife.
Pamukkale (Turkish for White Castle)
The Romans, drawn by the therapeutic hot springs and the year round mild climate, built what is now the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hierapolis above the ‘White Castle' some time around the 2nd century B.C. The world famous calcium terrace springs still draw visitors some 2 millennia later.
