Alanya and the surrounding area
Alanya is a city of many facets - three of which can be counted on to draw discerning holidaymakers again and again: relaxing ambience, year round good weather and 26 kilometres of sandy beaches. Other facets include an abundance of historical landmarks and lots of great places to shop. Those interested in culture won't want to miss Alanya Castle. One of the city's most popular attractions, the castle itself is but the jewel within this walled crown. Or visit the Kızıl Kule (Red Tower). This is Alanya's undisputed landmark no.1 and can even be found on the city's flag. It includes a quaint museum dedicated to documenting the area's ancient history. Many people decide the best way to discover the area is to hire a jeep. The winding road that follows the Dimcay river is not only breathtakingly beautiful, but dotted with picnic restaurants that entice with their delicious combination of international snacks and local specialties. Located within the Cebireis mountain to the east of Alanya and only opened to the public since 1997, the Dim (Gavurini) Cave is widely considered one of the most impressive in the country. The hinterland, beginning with the Taurus mountain range, is an enchanting wilderness just waiting to be ‘tamed'. Once ‘conquered', the invigorating fresh air is matched only by the unforgettable view over the Mediterranean.
