Numerous ship models, nautical instruments and figureheads give an exciting insight into the region's seafaring history. During the summer season, visitors can take a look at three historic ships on the Museum Bridge at the nearby Museum Harbour: the "Hindenburg" rescue boat, the "Kiel" fire boat and the "Bussard" buoy layer.

Kiel University Planetarium

Up to now, conventional planetarium technology only showed the heavens from an earthly perspective. In Kiel, visitors go on virtual journeys that seamlessly whisk them from Earth into the cosmos on the basis of scientific data. As the planetarium cupola appears to open, the public finds itself in the midst of an experience of uncanny beauty and realism.

In addition to residential and commercial buildings from the past, you will find a country chemist's shop on a hill surrounded by a herb garden which affords a glimpse into the pharmaceuticals of yesteryear. In the bakery, dating to 1850, sourdough bread is still baked - according to an ancient recipe, of course.
