Braunlage is an ideal vacation spot for everyone, both in summer and in winter. Whether (guided) treks, walks through the idyllic spa park with the beautiful; Berggarten or Nordic Walking, Braunlage always reveals an impressive side to itself.

Museum for aviation and technology

The museum houses an exhibition on flying with proper machines, models and interesting backgrounds. Besides large scale exhibits that can be touched, scale models and explanations of how they work are on display here, exciting for both the young and old, experts and lay people, taking them into the wonderful world of aviation.

Herzberg Castle

The Herzberger Welfenschloss has been an attraction for visitors and the local people since 1985. It is the largest castle housed in a timber framework building in Lower Saxony, and one of the most important architectural monuments of the Harz region. In the main wing, which has been renovated, visitors can obtain information about the history of the construction and the castle. The focus here is on dukes and duchesses who were associated with the Herzberg Castle. The castle museum documents the history of the Welf nobles and princes. In addition to this there is information about weapons, the history of the castle and the princedom of Grubenhagen.

Harz National Park

Braunlage is located in the middle of the Harz National Park, very close to the national park that was established in 1994. A unique parcel of nature that includes every visitor individually: some are attracted to Königskrug, Jermerstein, and Silberteich or to the idyllic Bode Drops, others are drawn to the fragrant hillside meadows or to the guided group expeditions around Braunlage. The Wurmberg, at a height of 971 m above sea level, is the second tallest mountain in the Harz region, is at the same time the highest elevation in Lower Saxony. The Wurmberg is often covered in mist, but when the view is clear, it offers a splendid view of the Brocken peak 4 km away. The view tower at the summit of the Wurmberg with its view platform at a height of 1,000 m above sea level is the winter starting point of the Continental-Cup Ski Jump, where jump records of up to 110 m are achieved.
The tallest mountain in the Harz, at a height of 1,142 m is the Brocken, which is also the highest elevation in northern Germany. The mountain is accessible again since 1989. Today the Brocken Museum and the Brocken garden are attractions worth a visit. The Harz, the northernmost part of the Central German Uplands, never fails to surprise with its changing facets: deep cut ravines, hills with unending leaf cover and pine forests, steep cliffs, gentle hills, colourful hillside meadows and clear lakes.
The varied landscape between Brocken and Harzvorland with the Hochharz Natural Park offers a whole range of attractions and sightseeing places such as the Harz narrow gauge train, the drip caves, demo-mines, museums, castles, fortresses, historic timber frame houses, to mention just a few examples. In addition to this, age old customs and folklore of the Harz region are also preserved.

Drip caves of Rübeland

The two drip caves, Baumannshöhle and Hermannshöhle are the biggest attractions of Rübeland. These caves have been formed over millions of years through calcium deposits, with numerous and very large stalactites and stalagmites. The caves are also home to interesting and rare species such as bats and cave olms. Remains of bears were also found at the Baumannshöhle, as well as diverse objects used by Stone Age men. The lakes in the caves, the chamber of crystals and the 8,000 year old columns are also astonishing.

The drip caves are open daily from 9 am, the closing time depends on the season: from November to January, at 3.30 pm, July and August at 5.30 pm, all other months at 4.30 pm.

Pullman City II

Spread over an area of 100,000 sqm, a city like in Westerns was built here in the district of Wernigerode, recreating the 19th century. Not far from the Brocken, you will be transported to the past in American culture and history. Pullman City II is entirely free from violence, though, that is, there is no shooting here, and any kind of glorification of violence is banned here. In this theme park, the motto is "Back to nature with these animals". Animal lovers get their money's worth here: Ponies, trail horses and coaches stand ready. Visitors can entertain themselves with these animals, throughout the park, with an accompanying guide. Besides the animal refuge and adventure sports areas, there are also two museums where one can get glimpses into the history of American settlements. Those interested in Red Indians will find something of interest here. The exhibits take the user on a brief journey through Red Indian culture and history. Active visitors can also go off on a gold hunt with instructions.

Summer toboggan in Sankt Andreasberg

The super ride over 550 m and a level difference of 130 m is an experience of a special kind for the entire family. And sled racing can be fun even in summer! Two seater rails take you comfortably to the starting point of the slide which is also the take off point for attractive treks.

Wernigerode

The "colourful city in the Harz" lies on the northern outskirts of the Harz region. Wernigerode is a city with special attractions: splendid timber framework houses vie for the viewers' attention, the oldest of these dating back to 1400. And something that should not be missed on any count: Gadenstedtsches Haus, Klintgasse, Lustgarten with orange orchard, the Town Hall, castle, the city walls, Westerntor Tower, Wohltäterbrunnen, and Das kleinste Haus (The smallest house).

Goslar

The imperial city of Goslar has a history that is more than 1,000 years old. The discovery of the first veins of silver probably goaded the Saxon and Salian emperors to build their biggest and most secure palatinates here. For centuries it was the preferred seat of government in northern Germany. At the same time, a place of Christian worship also came into existence here. The city was called "Nordic Rome". 47 churches and chapels with numerous towers determine the silhouette of the city. Even today, the view with the towers of the five big parish churches from the elevated Kaiserpfalz is impressive.
